A perfect day

Such an amazing day! I cannot rave enough about my internship. I am in love with Robert and Gordon. They are so great to me and I feel so comfortable with them. Some highlights before I go into the details of my day: Robert was telling me all about a press party they went to for the opening of the West End show Eurobeat – one of our clients is headlining in the show! It all sounded so exciting. When I expressed how cool I thought it was, they told me they would take me to some, and that there were a lot of events coming up! SOO EXCITING! I wish I could be here everyday instead of class, because let me tell you, this is so much more stimulating and exciting than freaking British history...ugh.

NOT TO MENTION.... the sun was actually out for a bit today, which was exciting, and there was absolutely not a drop of rain! Oh, I love it! My hair looks fabulous! Oh and I can’t forget to include that last night we booked our flight for fall break from London Gatwick airport into Pisa, which is right outside of Florence. We will then spend three days in Florence, train to Perugia, then train to Rome and end in Naples / Sorrento and then fly back to London. It should be a really exciting ten days - more details to come once we continue to book everything!

So this morning, I slept in a bit (because I didn’t have to be in the office until 10am) got ready (in casual clothes since I can wear jeans to the office), I had some cereal and then Andrea and I left at the same time for our internships to start at 10am, which is great because I have a buddy for part of the commute. Then I switch tubes and she stays onto William Morris Agency – which is an amazingly tall office building a couple of streets from our school. I like waking and having our big little alone time, it is really nice, and rare J Plus, I was really early to the office this morning because I have the commute down pat – so proud of myself! I am becoming quite the navigator of this lovely (yes, today it is lovely) city!

The internship is great and I am already feeling so much a part of the team, which is really thrilling.

I arrived at the office a bit early today because I allotted extra time for getting lost - which I did not to my surprise and pleasure.

I started right off to work this morning. Wednesday is a very busy day at the office. The energy was up as usual and working with Rob and Gordon is so much fun. They blast Whitney Houston and they are just so much fun and becoming really quick friends. I spent the majority of my day typing copies of scripts into a word document for them to use for their youth talent workshop, which begins tonight. I copied from books and even did a copy from a youtube.com video of child scripts for the children to read and learn from tonight.

In addition, I made phone calls for castings and spoke with casting directors and clients to arrange auditions, which was very exciting. I am certainly getting the hang of how the office functions and how to best make myself useful, as well as the protocols for making phone calls - for instance how to speak with a client vs. speak with a casting director. I also have learned how to fill out contracts and write down events and meetings in the black book. Everyday I learn a bit more about the administrative tasks and how to complete them accurately, which is great to feel more comfortable, and of course, be of the best help to the company.

Gordon will be on holiday for the next two weeks so he ran through his email account with me so that I know how to manage it while he is away. I took notes on how to be Rob's second hand woman while Gordon is away, and while having my supervisor be out of town is a bit intimidating, Rob is so great, I know I will be able to handle it all, and when I am unsure, he is great at being patient and answering any questions I have. They were both very comfortable to be around even while we were all busy and a bit stressed trying to manage preparing for the workshop tonight, as well as the daily grind of keeping up with news, castings and client information.

The most fun part was that we went out to lunch together today, Rob paid and encouraged me to order a glass of white wine – I did and it was a delicious chardonnay! I actually liked it, which is rare for me! And I got a little buzzed – ON ONE GLASS! So shameful, but Laura and I are convinced the alcohol is stronger here. We ate at this really posh restaurant and I had a delicious steak sandwich and of course chips – they have great fries here, I love them! I need to stop eating them but Gordon and Rob are not a good influence for staying skinny- they keep buying me chocolate and giving me cookies – I need to work out! I did crunches and squats last night and I run all around this city getting to and from places, so I think I will be okay, but still… time to keep things in check J

After a very fun lunch, I continued to staple the copies of scripts and organize the workshop. We were supposed to have an interview with a prospective client at 3:30 pm, but he did not show until 45 minutes after he was scheduled, which apparently is quite normal in this business. I could not imagine being 45 minutes late to a meeting, but I guess that is just the nature of dealing with many different people, from all walks of life and varying attitudes toward time management. We had to reschedule because we were just much too busy this afternoon planning for the workshop to squeeze in an interview that should not be rushed. Then, one of their REALLY HOT clients came in, he is straight too (most actors are not haha) and so freaking hot! So that was fun J

After the normal work hours, I went over to the Salvation Army where the youth workshop was being held and met the children who will be taking the class. They are all very kind and some very talented, and they were all so taken by me. I think it was the fact that I am from America and so I have a cool “accent” but I helped an adorable six year old client named Jola read through her script and I can tell I am going to love helping these kids on Wednesday night classes. It makes me miss my children from home J Anyways, I was only able to stay for a short while today because then I had to rush off to Waterloo to the National Theater to see a mandatory show for my Theatre class.

It was called Some Trace of Her and it was really brilliantly directed. It was a cast of about ten who used cameras and props on the stage in conjunction with multiple video cameras to create the main story, which showed on a large screen above the stage. It was unlike anything I had ever seen and overwhelmingly visual at times. The plot was extremely confusing, but the concept was so amazing – and the actors has amazing talent. So while I have no idea what the plot was really about, it was still fun to watch, and a lot to take in.

The best part is that the theater is located in this beautiful part of downtown just over the Thames River. With the water and boats and two large bridges all lit up at night, the city took on this romantic and sweet tone. Looking out from the bridge onto the water and seeing the city skyline made me feel so fortunate to be here. It renewed my appreciation for this city and was a truly remarkable sight.

After walking around the café’s and restaurants all along the downtown area surrounding the theater, Laura and I walked a bit to Covent Gardens and found this little café where we shared a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious, and the perfect end to a perfect day!

I hope everyone is well. Missing you all – especially when I have days like today and I just wish you could all experience the wonder with me J

Love and hugs,

Jenny
