Because my name is Jenny (surprise!), people who meet me usually bring up the classic movie Forest Gump at some point in time or another. I finally watched the movie myself two summers ago with Ike, and I actually loved it, as many people do. There is one line in that movie that everyone knows so well – “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.” This, I have come to find, is very true. But what is also just as true is that a person can be like a box of chocolates – there are many people we encounter in life that have that personality where you simply NEVER know what you are going to get. Sometimes you are hoping to bite into a caramel, and then whop, you get the nasty coconut, and want to spit it out. Or you avoid a certain piece because on the outside it does not look delicious, but it could have been your favorite if you had only given it a taste. And just like with people who have different facades, there is always an exterior coating that keeps you from knowing exactly what is on the inside. This chocolate dilemma can make Valentines Day a real trial, and outside of the delicious analogy, this personality dilemma can make being with certain people complicated.
My day, on the other hand – not so complicated at all. I slept in, went to history class where I revamped my cover letter to apply for the Event Marketing Intern with Country Music Television in Nashville for Summer 09 – as mister smelly droned on and on about the Cold War. I know I should pay more attention, but I have gotten an A on both papers, and so I prefer to utilize the free internet to my advantage while sitting in class J We are the generation of multi-taskers, and so multi-task I do.
I was all suited up (meaning dressed way down) to take a run after class, and then – womp womp – it was raining outside as I left class. Big shocker here in sunny London, I know. So instead I did a workout inside my flat – it was pretty inventive, you would be proud. Then I showered, spent some time with Katie and Kristy over dinner, and headed off to see the Drowsy Chaperone with Rob and Gordon – which was fantastic!!! I had no idea what to expect (a mystery chocolate if you will) but it was hilarious and such a breath of fresh air. I wish I could have seen it when Sutton Foster was in it on Broadway because I just know it would have been that much more amazing. It was a graduate production – Arts Educational School of the Arts put it on – so we were there watching to scout out talent – and there was so much to scout. I felt as though I was watching a professional West End production because it really blew me away. And I just love spending time with Rob and Gordon outside of the office when a good laugh isn’t followed by a to-do list, but rather another good laugh J. They are the best and I really do not know how I am going to say goodbye to them.
You see, with Rob and Gordon I never know exactly what is going to come out of their mouths, but in this case, I love that. I guess the beauty with never knowing what you are going to get with people is that while some can horribly disappoint you, others can surprise you in ways you never thought possible. There are those chocolates that brighten up your day and show you things about yourself and the world you never knew. And lucky for me I love chocolate, so I say, for better or worse, bring it on.
Love and hugs,
Jenny
